Our visitor industry is doing extremely well, especially considering the lingering effects of recession in the major markets that supply the bulk of the island’s visitors. Part of the reason lies in the fact that Maui continues to hang on to its reputation as a very upscale place for a tropical vacation. Another reason is the increased direct flight schedules being offered by Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines from secondary cities in the U.S. and Canada.
